icebox
Technology for delivering iceguide data to PVRs.
This
project contains components of icebox, released by IceTV under the terms of the GPL.
Icebox is a solution for delivering EPG data to PVRs. By
participating in this project, the Open Source community has an
opportunity to improve and adapt the icebox solution. Interested
developers are encouraged to subscribe to the developer
mailing list.
The source code is available from the SourceForge CVS repository
and covers the following components:
- Software module installed on the Topfield range of PVRs.
This is in the form of a TAP application module that ingests
EPG data and inserts DVB EIT entries into the internal EPG
database of the PVR. This TAP also supports automatic software
updates with the ability to accept, postpone or reject an
update. Other features offered by this TAP are the optional
automatic deletion of old recordings when hard disk space is
low and automatic extending of recording time when a tuner is
spare.
- An EPG transfer daemon that currently runs on an embedded
Linux platform, but should be portable to other systems. This
daemon retrieves EPG data as well as TAP software updates from
a server and transfers this
information to the PVR. This system is fully automated, so that
once it is set up the PVR always has up to date EPG data and
software.
- Source code to the web based user interface running on the
embedded Linux platform.
- Source code to the tools used to build and configure
firmware images suitable for flashing the embedded device.
- Source code to tools used to provide online system
updates.
